posted on 10.19.09 Welcome To Annesdale

A few weeks back I was in Memphis TN and had a chance to vist one of the oldest homes in the area. Say hello to Annesdale a Italianate mansion built back in 1850. This home has been in the same family line since 1869 when it was purchesed as a wedding gift from a Colonel to his daughter. From 1869  till 2009 this house has been lived in by a descendent of that daughter,140 years!! A few months ago the last person in the family willing and able to maintain and afford this  7 acres estate passed away and the fate of its future in unknown. This is not the state of the house when i had once seen it before as a kid, most of the good furniture is gone, family items removed its been plundered and whats left will be sold in an estate sale. But despite it current condition it has plenty of history to keep it up. It was a hospital in the Civil War, site of the first subdivision in the South, holds a whole library of books that date back to the 1800’s, has secret tunnels and even said to have a ghost.

More Photos to come!
